The Bonneville Salt Flats are a wide-open expanse of pure white space. It is the quintessential location for an editorial, as the cracks along the rough, textured ground draw the eye all the way to the brown Utah mountain panorama that lingers in the distance.
We started the day with a long bus ride from our hotel in Utah’s beautiful park city. Along the drive, I noticed the ground began to become strewn with pools crusted with salt. The Bonneville Salt Flats formed when the ancient Lake Bonneville dried up and left the salt deposits. A few times a year, rain will leave a shallow layer of water upon the flats, completely changing the scene.
The day increased in heat up to mid-90’s Fahrenheit, but with my camera in hand, I hardly noticed the intensity. We were all caught in a fever dream of creativity, provoked by couture dresses, beautiful brides, and Utah’s nature spectacle of the Bonneville Salt Flats.
